21th Century Learning

The findings about and methods of teaching has came a long way since the beginning of humankind. The core values that are considered to be important years ago are sometimes even shunned when compared to today's values that are upheld.

When we look at the previous years, we see a more direct approach to teaching with little to no interactive classes and often exercises that would be considered "boring" by today's standards. Maybe it was natural when you consider that language teaching was mostly kickstarted by the efforts of translating the bible into different languages but regardless, we came a long way.

Compared to the old practices, learning and teaching in the 21st century have vast differences and different core values. Collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving are the main points of improvement in this century. Everyone is expected to be able to make use of the fruits of technology for the ease of both the learner and the teacher. People have to be able to work in unity to be able to achieve greater things.

Many things directly or indirectly caused these changes from the new corporate style jobs to the ever-increasing need for more efficiency to be able to meet the public demand. It could be open to debate whether or not these changes are good or bad but it is certain that they had a big effect on the development of learning.
