I was tasked to create a podcast and I thought sharing it here would be a good idea.
We had many topics to choose from and the topic I choose was "How would I improve the world, explained in 60 seconds". I decided to touch on the subject of Therapy Animals in my podcast and the fact that they would improve everyone's mental health.
The creation of the initial voice recording was pretty difficult as just one mistake was enough to ruin the whole recording. My anxiety problem didn't help my case at all too. I had to retake the recording several times in order to finally come up with a usable recording. Then I edited out the unwanted noises and added a piece of background music for the extra fanciness. The end result was quite satisfying for me; enough to make me proud of myself :)
Overall, the experience was a bit anxious for me as I often have trouble with voice recording. I imagine my future students would also have these kinds of problems so while I would teach about the very basics of podcasting, I doubt if I actually require my students to make a podcast of their own.
Even the smallest of dents to a students' self-esteem and confidence is often enough to make a student give up altogether. While you can improve a bad student whether it's hard or easy, the same cannot be said for a lost student who is given up on hope. It's debateable if forcing students to do tasks which their necessity is questionable is a good thing.
In the end, we already have speaking practices anyways :)
